Back flow testing

The backflow preventer must only be tested by a certified plumber or backflow tester. The backflow valve is used to prevent back flow of water into the main system, thus preventing contamination. The device used to prevent backflow is called check valve. It is usually a RPZ (Reduced Pressure Zone) valve. A double check valve backflow preventer is also needed. If the backflow preventer is defective, the pressure inside the valve is reduced and the water may leak.

For larger water systems, the valve must be tested every year. After testing the backflow preventer, the plumber will give you an inspection and maintenance report.
